What’s the toughest thing to keep organized on a daily basis for you? If you said “OMG, my fridge,” you are not alone, friend. Fridges are challenging: items are being placed in and then taken out again by everyone in your household pretty much all the time.
With all of this activity, its inevitable that some items get hidden, ignored, and wasted. You know that sad half of an onion in your produce bin? And that bunch of cilantro that you had every intention of making cilantro-lime rice with but is now wilty and gooey hidden in some corner? Yeah, me, too!
I see it often in my client’s fridges, but also in my own. I always go through my fridge the night before garbage day to throw out food that went bad. The wasted food and money is SUCH a bummer.

IN THE BEGINNING . . .
As a child, I was so, so easy. It was easy to be easy. I pleased my parents, I pleased my teachers, I pleased my friends, siblings, and babysitters. Everyone. It didn’t matter if I wanted to do what I was told or not, because the feeling I got from making others happy superseded any satisfaction I would have gotten from charting my own path (or so I believed). I’m turning 40 at the end of this month and I kind of can’t believe it. So here’s the deal, friend. I sat down to write a post that somehow weaves organizing into lessons on turning 40 because I know most of you are here for organizing advice. But I promised myself that when I turned 40 I would stop doing things just to please others. So it starts now. And right now I don’t feel like writing about organizing.

As a mom of two little ones, I reflect a lot on the life I am creating for them, and also on my own childhood. I launched Grid + Glam at the beginning of 2018 and couldn’t have dreamed that by the end of the year I would need a dedicated headquarters to run the business. The business started with a couple of clients a month and quickly gave way to a hectic schedule where I worked during every available moment, including nights and weekends.
In order to reduce my working hours without compromising the quality of my client service, I knew I had to quickly expand my team and spend less time working on Grid + Glam’s daily functions myself. And that team needed a dedicated headquarters. Since I know that an organized and beautiful room creates a calm mind, I needed to set up my office accordingly, and create a space designed for a CEO and her team.

Most of my clients have at least a little anxiety around organizing. Some have anxiety around the process of getting organized. And for others, it is anxiety around their ability to stay organized (and for some, it’s of course, both). Research tells us that clutter can cause stress and anxiety. Finally, FINALLY spring is here! The snow has melted away, and I've put away my heaving winter coat. As the seasons change, I like to (read: make myself) look inward and examine any routines or habits that I might need to change to ensure I’m living my best life. Sounds pretty tedious . . . but, it’s true.
No surprise to anyone, I can't get into a good headspace without first having a clean and organized physical space. This means accomplishing not only my routine resets, but also my seasonal resets. In addition, if I’m running a Bootcamp, I try to accomplish the Bootcamp tasks before I launch it to make sure that each task is doable for everyone participating. So . . .
