Gift Wrap Organization Made Easy

‘Tis the season for gift giving and gift wrapping galore! But what happens when your gift wrap organization system is less than ideal, and wrapping gifts causes a buildup of clutter in your home?

I love giving gifts, but gift wrapping is enough to cause a surge of anxiety in even the most organized among us. Gift wrapping stations are all the rage right now, but creating a custom station can be expensive. Luckily, I’ve found a great workaround!

Today, I want to share some of my top gift wrap organization tips with you, so you can combat clutter and chaos and maximize your space during the holidays — and year-round!

Custom Isn’t the Only Option

One of the last major organizing projects I did in my house was to build a multi-functional gift wrapping station in my guest bedroom. It not only gave me a one-stop-shop for wrapping, but it also helped me speed up the entire gift wrapping process!

I have to admit, though — if I had known about the amazing gift wrap organization solutions from The Container Store before my custom closet build, I could have saved myself a lot of time and money.

Gift Wrap Organization With the Elfa Mesh Gift Wrapping Cart

I want to introduce you to your new best friend — at least, when it comes to gift wrap organization: The Elfa Mesh Gift Wrapping Cart from The Container Store.

This gift wrapping cart has so many helpful features and contains everything you need all in one place, especially if you pair it with these Elfa Drawer Dividers. Not to mention, how amazing are the Divided Elfa Drawer Trays? They’re a perfect fit and allow you to customize your cart to your exact needs.

Plus, once you create labels and pop them in the Elfa Label Holders, you’ll be able to find whatever you need in a hot second. No more crinkled up rolls of paper or hour-long hunts for scissors!

The Elfa Mesh Gift Wrapping Cart has wheels, which allow you to pull it out of the closet and wrap gifts in front of the TV (or wherever is convenient), without having to leave it out all the time.

However, my favorite feature might be, of all things, the TOP of this gift wrap organization cart! It’s the perfect storage spot to keep any pre-wrapped presents until the gift-giving time arrives. I’ve been asked countless times where to store gifts as they wait to be given, and this is the answer!

This cart is an investment. But the space it saves and the ease it brings to all your wrapping needs is well worth it!

Ribbons, Bows, and Other Gift Wrap Organization

Now that you’ve stored your wrapping paper and other essentials, it’s time to deal with the pesky (but beautiful!) ribbons and bows.

Listen, friend, if you put a big, beautiful bow on a gift, nobody will see your lack of gift-wrapping ability — or am I alone here? That is probably my best gift-wrapping hack.

If ribbon is more your thing, this Elfa Ribbon Dispenser from The Container Store allows you to store several different options and cut it straight off the dispenser.

And how fun is this Hands-Free Tape Dispenser? My daughter already tried to steal it for her crafting, but it is staying in my wrapping drawer!

For those gifts that just won’t wrap nicely (or when you’re really in a pinch for time), gift bags can be your best friend. Here’s a hot tip for you: if you receive gifts bags, and they’re not torn or warped, recycle and re-gift them by keeping them in The Elfa Hangmate Accessory Basket.

Be Prepared, All Year Round

Gift wrap organization isn’t just for the holidays. Gifts need to be wrapped for birthdays, housewarming parties, and other special events, too! All year long! EEK!

Have you ever looked at your calendar and realized that your child has a birthday party to go to in a few hours, but you’re woefully unprepared for it? To avoid that crisis, I keep gift wrapping materials ready to go all year long:

  • I let my kids pick out birthday-themed paper and bows they love and I store them in my cart.
  • I have pre-printed To/From labels with my kids’ names on them (one for each, plus a joint label).
  • I also keep general birthday and housewarming gifts on hand. If you stock up on housewarming gifts (like a ring holder, or fun candy dish) and kid party gifts, you’ll always be prepared!

Enjoy Your New Gift Wrap Organization!

One final tip for you, friend: once your Elfa Mesh Gift Wrapping Cart arrives and you fully stock it, choose a day (or a series of nights) to wrap your gifts before the holidays. Mark it in your calendar now! And when that day arrives, pull your new, fully-loaded cart in front of the TV, grab a drink, take a deep breath and begin wrapping! You might just find the whole process to be fun!
